Lagavulin distillers edition review

Today we are up to the third of our four planned reviews in the Lagavulin series. The annually released Distillers Edition is a variant of the Lagavulin 16-Year Old. Pedro Ximénez, or PX, is a style of sherry wine that is noted for its extreme sweetness. Without going into too much of the production details, PX grapes are dried in the sun prior to being pressed and fermented which concentrates the sugars. Lagavulin , with its bold peaty and salty profile takes on this wine finishing.

Lagavulin Distillers Edition Lagavulin Distillery staff tasting notes: The second maturation in Pedro Ximinez. Lagavulin hit this out of the park and it is now on the top of my list. This is similar to the regular Lagavulin years ol only it is finished in different casks - in this case PX sherry, and bottled in limited quantities as a special edition.

To me Lagavulin is undeniably the best whisky in the Classic Malts series, and the Distillers Edition does not disappoint.
